Grassroots Motorsports June 2009 Writeup

As many of you have already read - and for those of you who haven't yet, what are you doing? Subscribe to GRM already! - Grassroots Motorsports did an incredible writeup of Wreck Racing and its history at the $200x GRM Challenge. GRM was gracious enough to post the story to their website so we could share it with the world. If you haven't subscribed to the magazine yet - even after I JUST told you to go buy a subscription - and have not read the article, you may do so by following this link

Long-awaited update

Many of you out there are probably wondering "hey, when is Wreck Racing ever going to update their website? I am so eager to hear more about their progress, and I'd like to see it on their snazzy website!" ...at least, I imagine it's something like that. Well, the wait is over, for now!

The BMW is getting used to its new engine and currently being prepped for it's reemergence in the autocross circuit this Sunday (we hope). It's a bit leaky and creaky, so we're sorting that out before we give it some real exercise.

For throughout-the-summer updates about when I'm in the shop (which is a good time to come help out), follow wreckracing on Twitter. I'll try to update this so it's easy to find someone in the shop!

Miata Tuning Update

The Miata is running very happily right now. Jared has been working very hard on getting our fuel map in place as well as squeezing as much power as possible from the engine. Currently, we have increased the redline of our 1UZ-FE from our previous 5,500 RPMs to an ear-piercing 7,000 RPMs (and let me tell you, it sounds MEAN). We plan to get the car to the dyno - graciously provided to us by one of our sponsors, DIYAutoTune - before the end of the semester. Stay tuned for the outcome of our dyno day!

Welcome our newest sponsor!

We would like to welcome and thank our newest sponsor, Pirelli. Pirelli has graciously agreed to send us, among other things, some tires which will be put to the test (and some serious abuse!) on the Miata. We thank you and all of our sponsors for your support. Wreck Racing would not have come as far as we have without you.

2008 Competition Season

For the $2008 Competition the team decided to bring two cars! The BMW from previous competitions was to make it's last stand as a competition car while the Mazda Miata was supposed to be Wreck Racing's golden child.

Our BMW Got A Heart Transplant

Earlier last week a team of Wreck Racers successfully installed a newly purchased M20 engine to our e30 BMW. Plans for the BMW are still ongoing, but we hope to have it up and running again shortly! Stay tuned!

Doraville Auto-x

Thanks to General Motor's generosity, Wreck Racing was able to use the Doraville Assembly Plant’s parking lot for testing purposes Nov 15th. Sixteen Wreck Racing members took part in the autocross. Not only did it provide unprecedented testing time for the Miata, it also enabled nearly every member to get behind the wheel and thus really boost morale. We were able to drive the Miata for nearly 7 of the 8 hours we were there and are glad to say that it ran great. The lot was more than large enough, close to campus and has a good surface with minimal hazards.

MSC Open House

Thanks to everyone who came out to the MSC open house today. There were a ton of awesome sponsorhsip opportunities as well as new sources for shop supplies, materials, or any other thing we could possibly ask for. Much thanks to MSC for holding the open house and putting on such a great show.
